If you are already on Medicare, now is the time to look at your options. You don’t need to take any action with your Medicare Advantage Plan or Traditional Medicare Part D prescription drug plan if you are happy with them. However, plans change every year so it’s worth confirming that your doctors, preferred pharmacies and other providers are still in network and that your medicines are still covered at the price you expect. You should also consider whether to switch from Traditional Medicare to Medicare Advantage. While you are also technically allowed to switch back to Traditional Medicare from Medicare Advantage, this doesn’t happen often in practice. The reason is because with Traditional Medicare, it is wise to have a supplemental plan (often called a Medigap policy), but access is generally only guaranteed during your initial Medicare enrollment; otherwise insurers will require you to meet the medical underwriting requirements, which can be very problematic.
